Sania Lost in Hobart International Quarter Final

Italy's Flavia Pennetta upset India's Sania Mirza 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 in a quarter-final at the $1,70000 Moorila Hobart International on Wednesday in Hobart, Australia. Sania, who was seeded 6th in the Tier IV hard court event, wasted 7 break points.

Sania had been one of only two seeds remaining in the main draw at the start of the tournament's third day but, by the end, No. 2 Vera Zvonareva was left alone among seeded players. Pennetta converted five of eight break points and overcame a mid-match slump on her way to a gritty win over Mirza.

The tournament is a warm-up for the season's first grand slam -- the Australian Open -- starting January 14.
